fairchild was one of the earliest manufacturer of compact electronics,they built their own modules and supplied others.their lcd watches were made in small quantities .the models shown here are their best.from 1976 this fairchild had a quality far higher than its original price would suggest.heavy linked bracelets. multi-faceted case,six function modules with day display.silver foil logo,signed crystal case back and clasp.this one used an unusual lighting method called tritium.this was a permanent backlight that requires no buttons to use.inside the case there are small glass tubes filled with a radioactive element that produced the glow.they had an expected life of about fifteen years,surprisingly some thirty-four years later they still produce a faint glow.interestingly there lcd watches were of much higher quality than the led models.fairchild also supplied tiffanys with an led model.
